Sabre Utensils

I have certain friends I rely on to keep me young” – people who have great recommendations on music, clothes, and whatever else. My friend Jimmy is one of those people. He recently co-founded a boutique in Greenpoint called Forecast, and now travels to Paris to scope out new clothes.

While he was there, he mentioned Sabre cutlery, and when I checked it out I fell in love.

In the last couple of years, I’ve taken a lot more interest in the home. I think because:

  1. Covid lockdowns, like everybody else
  2. I stopped being as interested in clothes (my primary money pit)
  3. I always kind of hated being at home for too long, and it felt like I should change that. I realized home should be goated, and it just wasn’t (and still isn’t, but it’s closer now than it was 2 years ago)

When I lived in SF I was using old plates and silverware from Target, that I got to move into college. They were pretty ugly lol. With a lot of things, I am weirdly cheap, sustainable, whatever you want to call it, and rarely replace stuff that just feels utilitarian. I still have 10 year old spatulas, wooden spoons, cutting boards, etc.

Eventually, on my first steps of my ~ domestic journey ~, I upgraded the silverware to be from CB2 to be more adult”, a few years ago, but still wasn’t crazy about it. So this felt like a prime opportunity to upgrade, now that I was actually interested in liking the things at home (lol).

I’ve had a lot of commitment issues with colors, because I think every couple of years my taste is just completely different (and maybe that’s why I just never saw the point in getting new stuff, since I’d be over it in a year or two anyway). I bought a bunch of dinnerware from Heath that are all different colors to avoid the problem. Naturally, it made sense to go with a multi-color set from Sabre, that combines the best of both worlds: color optionality, but harmony.

I also loved the luster finish, because it’s a unique way to use the plastic material that’s honest, but a bit unusual, and complements the metal hardware that punctuates it really nicely. It’s difficult to capture it on camera, so I’ve included two pics that hopefully get across the ethereal quality of the utensils.

Best of all… they’re dishwasher safe. (…like it would matter – I’d be chucking whatever in there anyway…) :)
