I think everyone has their own personal marker for what makes something home” after moving. Mine is hanging up the art. My last apartment in New York didn’t have any art up for six months. Then, as some kind of omen, I had to leave unexpectedly six months later to my new apartment. I feel like there is maybe some inverse relationship between the time it takes to put up art and how long you live somewhere. In my next (current) apartment it took me 1-2 months to put up art and I’ve been here for nearly 3 years.

This piece showed in Rachel Rossin’s 2021 solo show Boohoo Stamina” at Magenta Plains (images here, press release here).

It’s too long winded to explain why I like Rossin’s practice, and this piece in particular, so I won’t bother for now.

Pulled Tendon, RJ is the piece of art I look at the most, by virtue of being in my living/dining area. I got it framed recently in maple, my favorite wood, and it compliments the painting perfectly.

Living around art makes my life so much better. I selfishly want to impose this belief on others, but I need to recognize people want different things.
