Hobonichi 2025 Planner (Start Here)

January 5, 2025

With the new year beginning, I thought this would be a good time to start a blog to share what I like. I believe that there is something to appreciate about anything, and that your tastes and interests are defined by the boundaries of your own mindfulness. I’d like to become more mindful and appreciative of things in my life.

I am going to focus on the things I own, or things I do, rather than things I’d like to acquire, or just admire generally.

It feels appropriate to use my 2025 Hobonichi planner/journal as the first thing to detail. I have used the regular sized Hobonichi previously, but I felt like my handwriting was comically big for the small surface area, so this year I’ve opted for the larger Cousin model. I like it a lot more already, because it can serve as a bite sized journal or to do list that is better suited to my handwriting size.

CoverCover

First off, I like the cover I selected. I haven’t finished Earthbound, partially because I don’t want it to end. But it’s already one of my favorite video games, and seeing the cover reminds me of the quirkiness and positivity I feel from it. Mr. Saturn isn’t my favorite character, but it’s fun to have such a freak on it. I also like that this year’s random Hobonichi pen goes really well with the planner.

Yearly ViewYearly View

I like the consideration given to the different time horizons within a year. There is a great monthly overview designed to track habits (at least that is what I think it is for). It makes me think about what habits I might want to cultivate this year (TBD).

Monthly ViewMonthly View

The standard month view is good for highlighting dates. With the last Hobonichi I used, I catalogued travel and hangouts with friends, and it made me realize I need to do that more. I felt very sad by how lost I got in the routine of work and other obligations. It motivated me to start a small, biweekly movie club to ensure I see my friends at least every other week.

Weekly ViewWeekly View

The week view is nice, but I think I will repurpose this for tracking some things that these pages aren’t meant for. My calendar changes frequently with meetings, and provides a good record of my day to day happenings (if I do it, it’s in the calendar).

Day ViewDay View

The day view has time slots, and even a division line that I assume is for tracking to do list items vs time based items. I plan to use it as a journal/to do list combo. Again, I like that this is better suited for my size of handwriting.

Lastly, I appreciate the small touches in this journal. The color designations for each month make it easier to visualize where you are in the year. Also, the colors they chose are very cute.

Thank you for checking out my first post!
